Christmas Is About Wise Choices

With all the work related lunches and dinners happening at this time of the year, it is important to use wisdom. There is a time for celebrations and feasting and the Bible is full of such times. However continual overeating is not good. I suggest the following to help;

1. If you are going out for a meal, don\'t skip eating before hand (to save up for the free meal). Wisdom says the opposite, eat normal meals earlier in the day and even eat a healthy snack an hour or two before hand so you can control the temptations.

2. Hopefully there are choices of food. Always choose the healthier choices.

3. Try not to overeat. It helps to eat slowly and talk happy things more.

4. Don\'t drink too much fluid with meals as this waters down the digestive enzymes and causes bloating, wind and indigestion.

5. Take B vitamins and a\' liver’ detox formula if you are drinking alcohol and drink lots of water before and after.

The Power of Fruit

Summer fruits and berries are a great hit for lovely Christmas recipes. Increasing your intake of fruit overall is a great way of feeling full, increasing your daily fibre amount and not to mention the level of vitamin C. Families can offer their children a morning tea of whole chilled oranges cut into segments, chilled just out of the fridge. Stone fruit, strawberries, berries all offer great vitamin, enzymes and mineral protection. Its preferable to eat the fruit in its raw state and not juiced if possible. Juices offer higher sugar intake and are less filling than eating a whole or segmented piece of fruit. Kids may not want to eat fruit whole, yet cut up apple and pear into thin strips and this may attract their attention. Other alternatives are kiwi fruit with skin taken off, rock melon and watermelon (known as ‘king’ of all fruits because of its wonderful nutritional values).

Make fruit shish kebabs by cutting fruit up into cubes and placing on skewers. Display cut up fruit in bright ice cream Sunday containers. When it looks like fun, they will more than likely eat it. As adults fruit is great to eat as well. Use a beautiful glass platter, have many different textures and colours of fruit, slice finely and layered in rows or a circle. It really does feel delightful to eat. Add coconut cream for fruit salad.

AnthoBerry

If you or the family find it difficult to meet your daily dose of fresh fruit and vegetables, then `Anthoberry’ is the answer. Generally, the minimum recommended 5 serving of fruit and vegetables per day provides 1750 ORAC units. Using Anthoberry will assist in increasing your ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorb-ance Capacity) to levels that significantly raises your blood antioxidant levels.

AnthoBerry provides a high ORAC value, which helps to counter the harmful effects of disease, the free radicals produced by the environment, stress and the body\'s own metabolic processes.

Increasing your level of antioxidants, which help to maintain cell health and function and in turn may help slow the effects of aging.

Philips Health Tip

Dehydration impairs cognitive performance.

My research shows that children do not drink enough water and too many soft drinks and cordials. Even mild dehydration can lead to impaired cognitive function. Also confusion, irritability, lethargy and headaches.

From this data I suggest things like placing a jug  or bottle of water where it is easily seen by the children and make a game that they must have consumed it by dinner time each night. It’s that important.

Smoothies and Healthy Icy Poles

Berries (all) are wonderful foods from Gods garden that contain powerful healing and preventative antioxidant nutrients. I personally have a heaped teaspoon of the Berry powder (Antho Berry) nearly every day. It contains a rainbow colour mix of blueberry, cherry, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, prune, cranberry, grape and grape seed. Because this mix is in its natural food form (powder) its safe for all ages. It’s a wholesome food not a tablet. Just add a tsp for adults and 1/2 tsp for under 5’s to a daily smoothie, water or make into ice blocks or icy poles and enjoy.

Philip’s Health Tip

Omega 3 (fish oils) are essential to a healthy brain, heart and body. Omega 3 assists development of children\'s IQ.

I recommend a high potency ultra pure liquid formula that tastes good for children. You only need to take a 1/2 tsp per day to have the potency to make a difference.

Do look closely at the fish oil that you purchase. When purchasing a fish oil in general, check that it guarantees to be free of all toxins and has high levels of EPA/DHA. Fish oil made from farmed fish may be associated with a higher toxin exposure.

If you are not sure, do ring the company for a guarantee.

Baby Health Tips.

Glass baby bottles offer a safe alternative to everyday plastic babies bottles. The concern of using plastic baby bottles is that the plastic often contains toxins that are dangerous for baby. Through contact of milk and plastic and the combination of heat, toxins may leach into bottled milk and ther-fore exposing baby to unnecessary chemicals. Also I suggest when heating babies bottles never use the micro wave to do it.

You can source glass baby bottles or if you don\'t want glass, but nevertheless a baby bottle that is safe to use, there are suitable alternatives. I strongly encourage parents to stay away from plastic bottles. For an alternative see ww.natureschild.com.au

Healthy Children & Healthy Parents

I am writing a book for parents. It will advise on how to prepare for child birth and the ongoing growth stages through to teens. The book will address the issue of ‘How & What to feed your kids’. Following in the tradition of Daniels Diet I will be surveying and researching families, seeking info on what you feed your children on a day by day basis. You are welcome to contribute recipes & meal plans that work in everyday life and are user friendly and practical. Expert chefs will also design special meal plans and menus. So please send in any ideas, as your ideas will assist others.

I will also hold church and community talks along with one on one consultations.

From Philips Desk

On reflecting back over this year, one thing most people agree upon is time seems to be going faster. Also clinically its very obvious that as we look ahead we cant afford to take our health for granted . Its not wise to be lazy and think that we can rely on quick fixes and instant medication to `prop’ up our health, especially in the long term. Most of the chronic illness of today was just 80 years ago, either rare or unheard of. Illness is rarely of genetic origin, as this takes hundreds of generations to alter. It’s the food we eat and our lifestyles that bring about this degeneration of our health. My main concern is for our children and their children\'s health physically, mentally and spiritually. The foods we feed our children and what we eat , now will determine a majority of disease patterns for all children born from now on. Add the health issues of ever increasing stress and emotional problems (unhealthy soul) and you can see my concern.

The good news is that its never too late to change all the bad health stats. Can we can make a difference, if ‘we change’ our behaviour? Yes! It only takes 3 months to start improving our bloods health and 12 months to change deeper cell deterioration. However I know that most people need a plan they can trust to follow and receive wise counsel. I intend to offer that.
